2011 Genome Assembly Workshop Mar 14-16, 2011

The Santa Cruz 2011 Genome Assembly Workshop (March 14-16, 2011) will be held in conjunction with the Genome 10K project meeting. The genome assembly workshop will address one of the most pressing problems in genome sequencing: the increasing challenge of developing computational analysis methods that can keep up with the ever-accelerating advances in genome sequencing technology. This meeting will focus on computational analysis of whole-genome sequencing data and in particular on the critical problem of assembling these data into a reasonably complete and accurate genome sequence. Our goal is to agree on rigorous standards for de novo and reference-assisted genome assemblies and determine the best way forward to achieve these standards. To facilitate cross-fertilization in this workshop, we will engage experts from a variety of projects involving large-scale genome sequencing. We are holding this meeting to a limited number of participants so that we can have maximally focused discussions.

2011 Genome 10K Meeting March 16-18, 2011

This Genome 10K meeting will occur two years after the inaugural meeting that launched the project, with the purpose of analyzing the progress of the pilot project and, in light of that analysis, charting the course of the full project. This project is now underway with a burgeoning database of more than 16,000 likely specimens, another 90 associates and affiliates, and a pilot project to sequence the first 100 species.

Still in planning stages, times are not confirmed. More details to follow.
